Offenburg. During the past weekend, the visitors of the Gemstones Expo could experience a world full of gemstones, minerals, gold and silver. Around 60 exhibitors presented a multifaceted insight at 2,400 m² in the exhibition hall 1B. In total, 1,400 visitors came to the Gemstones Expo in order to find a new favorite piece or work on a gemstone at the fair. “The popularity amongst the visitors has exceeded all expectations, thus many exhibitors have already confirmed their participation for 2018,” as project leader Sarah Hahn sums up.
Skills and sensitivity were asked from the visitors who wanted to grind their own gemstone. Three grinding machines were available for the visitors. “Some grind their stones between 15 and 30 minutes, others need longer”, says the expert Alexander Kesten. For those who wanted to manufacture their own silver jewellery, they could produce their own personal jewellery with fire, pliers, hammer and iron.
For the first time, the special exhibition “minerals from the Black Forest” was integrated in the Gemstones Expo. Erik Wagner from Hausach collects minerals from its home since 30 years. He demonstrated different levels of ore, mostly argent lead ore. Moreover, fluorspar and barite as well as secondary lead mineral from the southern Black Forest were presented. Visitors could exchange, buy and marvel to one’s heart’s content.
For those who wanted to be surprised, they could get an insight of the “cracking” of geodes. These gas bubbles from a formerly hot lava flow were carefully opened in front of the visitors of the Gemstones Expo. The geodes from the Western Sahara come from Morocco and present their entire beauty after they are opened. On the inside, a diverse mineral filling manifests itself.
The next Gemstones Expo takes place on 17. + 18. March 2018 parallel to the fair Balance at the Exhibition Center Offenburg.
